The Sherman County Sheriff's Office says a Loup City woman is in stable condition after being shot in the hip. Deputies are investigating the incident as an accidental shooting.
Deputies were called to the scene Wednesday night just after 10 p.m.
Investigators say Michael Hill fell asleep with his handgun that he had been checking on his chest. When his wife, Sandra Hill went to wake him up, the gun discharged, striking her hip.
Deputies say the shooting is believed to be accidental, due to statements and evidence at the scene.
They say the investigation will continue and alcohol was involved.
