Pennsylvania Man Gets 7-14 Years Because the Arresting Officer was a Bumbling Idiot and Shot his Partner

A Baldwin Borough man was sentenced to 7 to 14 years in prison for his actions earlier this year which led to the accidental shooting of one police officer by another.
Bryan Lijewski, 30, pleaded guilty to possession of oxycodone, child endangerment, recklessly endangering and simple assault before Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Kathleen Durkin on Aug. 29.
According to the prosecution, Baldwin police were called to a home on Elmwood Drive on Feb. 10 after they received a call that he was suicidal and walking around inside with a shotgun.
When officers arrived, Lijewski opened the door but refused to show his hands. He tried to close the door, but a Baldwin officer put his foot on it, and Sgt. Ralph Miller pushed his shoulder against it to open it.
The first officer’s gun went off, and struck Sgt. Miller between his protective vest and his belt.
According to the prosecution, the shot shattered the officer’s pelvis and caused paralysis in the lower part of one leg. Sgt. Miller must now use a cane to walk and it is unlikely he will be able to return to work.

  1. "Bryan Lijewski, 30, of Baldwin Borough leaves District Judge John N. Bova's office in police custody after turning himself in. He was charged with illegally possessing a firearm, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and endangering the welfare of a child."

"Miller pushed his shoulder against the door, while another officer stuck his foot in the door to stop it from closing, police said. One officer's rifle went off, striking Miller at least once in the back."

Which gun owner are you referring to Mike? The one who seems to be a prohibited person? Or the "bumbling" police officer who had a negligent discharge? As has been said before, this seems a bit contradictory since you seem to have no problem wanting to give law enforcement discretion to decide who should be able to carry.

    1. There's no contradiction. I feel the police are inadequately trained and inadequately held accountable for their fuck-ups, pretty much like you civilian gun owners. I don't want the bumbling incompetent idiots to be in charge of anything, but you knew that didn't you? Your whole comment is based on a pretend misunderstanding of what I stand for. You're turning into Greg right before our eyes.

What Do We Mean by Proper Gun Control?
      5. "May Issue" policy for concealed carry permits managed federally - same rules in every state.

The gun control lobby advocates for "may issue" permit systems because they feel local police should have the discretion to deny permits to those who haven't been convicted of a crime yet, but are "bad" people.
Your posting above seems to suggest you agree. Or do you contend that the police are more competent if they are hired by the federal government as opposed to the local government?

    3. Yes, Mikeb, we know what you stand for. So long as gun rights get taken away, nothing else matters to you.

    4. ss, what I contend, as you well know already, is the police are just like the civilian gun owners. Half of them, or perhaps more, are responsible and competent. Obviously I wouldn't want the incompetent and irresponsible ones making the may-issue decisions, or any other decisions for that matter.

When you give any government entity power or control over something you tend to lose freedom of choice. And often it comes as a frustrating surprise even to the people who proposed it as has been recently demonstrated by the roll-out of Obamacare.
You also tend to not get any choice in what government worker is taking care of a particular job. Think something like the TSA since that's likely the minimum size for what you would envision.

    6. And you, Mikeb, have so much faith that the responsible ones will be the ones to make decisions.

    7. And you Greg think those without the authority should make the decisions. Typical for a lawbreaker.
