The Incredible Stupidity of Thinking the Eddie Eagle Approach Works

Though all of the articles I've seen a pretty vague, I don't see anything that would suggest you can lay blame on the NRA program. It sounds like he was at a neighbor's house when it happened, and that would suggest that he was shot by the neighbor kid. Still a tragic event.

    1. The neighbor's kid probably received the same sage advice from his parents. It doesn't work. What works is ensuring that kids DO NOT have access to guns unless closely supervised.

    2. Mike, On the point about always keeping firearms secured, I agree with you. I believe the Eddie Eagle program isn't intended so you can leave your guns lying about the house. Its to keep kids from messing with a firearm they come upon.
We really don't know about the kid who shot the friend. I could also speculate that since the father of the victim taught gun safety to his son and owned firearms, then he is a responsible gun owner.
However, we don't know anything at all about the neighbor kid. And we might not ever really know, because unless there is something that grabs the media's attention, it wont survive the short attention span of the news types.

  2. If Eddie the Eagle is such a bad idea, that means the opposite must be a good idea. "Kids, if you see a gun- play with it. Show it to your friends. Take it home. Keep it a secret from grown-ups."

    1. I knew you had an agenda. And I was right the last time around.
