Gabby at the Range

CBS

Former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., is reigniting her push for a federal law expanding background checks on gun purchases but with a strong emphasis on the idea that gun owners like herself should get behind stronger regulations.

To kick off her seven-day "Rights and Responsibilities Tour" on Monday, Giffords visited a shooting range in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"I am taking this week to pay tribute to the Second Amendment -- both the rights it bestows and the responsibilities it requires," Giffords wrote in a USA Today op-ed published late Monday. "In these divisive political times, gun safety and gun rights are too often pitted against each other. But Americans can meet in the middle. Now all we need is for our elected leaders to meet us there."

  1. Do you think Gabby would pass your physical qualifications tests that you desire to own and operate guns? She suffered brain damage- you can’t possibly be ok with this. I am not saying this to dig at you, but you haven’t been kind to disabled people’s gun rights in the past.

    2. Then you have a responsibility to take her guns......

  2. When this whole drive for more laws kicked off, Giffords and her political cohorts were very up front with the assault weapon and magazine ban, and universal background checks in one package. Then they started dropping things off of the bill when it became obvious that it wouldn't pass even the Senate. And eventually it all failed.
Now Giffords is trying to remake herself into the responsible gun owner and now talking about "reasonable" gun laws. I can understand her taking such a stance regarding guns in light of what happened, but anyone who does such an perceived attitude change in a short time gives me the willies.
At least Bloomberg and Pelosi are consistent in their feelings about their ultimate goal.

    1. I thought they were gun owners who favor more gun control from the very beginning.

This is why I object to Greg's frequent attempts to claim that there are 100 million of you. Most gun owners agree with me and think you guys are fanatics.

  3. She is not a gun owner like me. This isn't about responsible vs. irresponsible. This is a case of someone who doesn't support gun rights vs. those of us who do. Now, she had a traumatic event, so I can forgive her--somewhat--but I will not agree with her, and I will work against her efforts.

    1. Now you're talking, Greg. Does that mean we won't hear you claiming kinship with the 100 million any more?

    2. What I've claimed--and shown with evidence--is that more than 99.9% of us do no wrong with our guns. I've also shown you repeatedly that most of thos e gun owners either oppose gun control or aren't sufficiently interested in your cause to be much help to you. The fact that there are some Quislings in the ranks only goes to show the weaknesses in human nature.

That's a bullshit lie and you know it. You've shown the statistical thing, which I've addressed in various ways, but this one you're talking through your ass.

  4. I am taking this week to pay tribute to the Second Amendment -- both the rights it bestows . . .

If she thinks the Second Amendment "bestows" any right, as opposed to guaranteeing a preexisting, natural right, her brain damage is more severe than I'd thought.

  5. If we all sat in a room together, it seems she will side with us for more often. You want her disarmed along with tens of millions of other Americans. You want the right stripped, without actually going through the constitutional process to do so. I can’t see that jiving with her “reasonable regulations” stance.
