Colorado Man Guilty of Manslaughter in Friend's Accidental Shooting Death

Local news reports

A jury has found the man who accidentally shot another man while looking at guns guilty of manslaughter.

David McRea was also found guilty on Friday of Possessing a Firearm while Under the Influence of Alcohol, according to the 4th Judicial District Attorney

It was May 19, 2012, when police said McRea, 22 at the time, was looking at guns with 27-year-old James Crouch. They were at a home on North Nevada.

Police said Crouch was accidentally shot in the chest by a gun McRea was holding. Crouch later died at Penrose Main Hospital.
In our post about this incident at the time it happened, I made no reference to charges. Due process sure took its own sweet time in this case.

I suspect the alcohol had a lot to do with it.  I mean, lawful gun owners are shooting people all the time and getting away with it,  but if you add something like being under the influence or lying to the police, you're busted.

  1. You mean that there might be degrees of behavior? You mean that we might have to recognize that life has nuance?

But yes, getting drunk and playing with guns is a foolish thing to do. This man deserves (probably more than) what he gets.

  2. Yes, due process is not always as fast as rushing to judgement which is a good thing. As to why the guilty verdict was for manslaughter rather than another charge, I have no way of knowing. I do know that this man's behavior with a firearm was tragically irresponsible.
