  1. I'm trusted with the education of my students. I should also be trusted to protect their lives. Soon, I may be.

    1. You shouldn't be entrusted with either one.

  2. If I cannot trust you (that's a generic "you", not you specifically, Greg) to behave responsibly with a gun, why on earth would I trust you to work with my children at all? If my concern is that you will one day "snap" then I don't want you around my children at all, regardless of whether you are armed or not.

    1. Indeed, but I'll apply the point to me. I've been found trustworthy on both counts, but the law at present still doesn't want the twain to mix.

    2. Mark my words, one day the twain shall mix. Yeah, it was a literary stretch but I've only had one cup of coffee today.

    3. As soon as our governor fulfills his promise to sign the bill--he's a Democrat, let's note--concealed carry by employees will be legal on campuses that allow it. Then the question goes to our Board of something or other. We had a survey sent to our e-mail about where we stood on the question. I filled mine out immediately, naturally.

    4. The overwhelming number of parents polled don't want guns in schools, including colleges and Universities.

We've already seen how many of these gun toting school staffers make stupid mistakes, from leaving them in the boy's bathrooms, to shooting themselves while at the gun range, or the college professor at a southern University who didn't get tenure, and blew her colleagues away at a departmental meeting, or the university radio station where the guy shot himself in the hand with the gun in his backpack.

I hope the college and university insurance companies hit those campuses that allow it with a HUGE freaking premium rate increase, or drop their coverage entirely -- which is very likely.

It doesn't hurt anyone if you teach badly; they may be less well educated, but that can be repaired with remedial educaation.
